We are currently accepting pre-orders for the next delivery of Alden x Leffot Black Alpine Grain Longwings. We anticipate delivery sometime Spring/Summer 2013.
This shoe is one of our oldest Alden makeups, a subtle and hearty take on the classic longwing. Made with a textured black calfskin and durable, comfortably soft crepe soles, it’s a shoe that perfectly straddles the line between casual and dressed up. Wear it with jeans, khakis, or any number of dress slacks.
Pre-orders will be done in two stages. Stock D and E widths can be ordered with a non-refundable, non-transferable 20% deposit through our online shop. You will be contacted once the shoes arrive for final payment.
Sizes that are not available on our pre-order page can be requested by contacting us via email at info@leffot.com by Sunday, March 17th. We will advise you if Alden can make a pair in your requested size.
We hope this policy makes it easier for you to get the Alden makeups in sizes that are difficult to find.

Steven,
I purchased these shoes during the last pre-order. While they are remarkably comfortable, I am disappointed that after only 6mos of light wear (1x/wk average) and good care the leather tip has started to warp away from the crepe sole on one foot. Any suggestions?
Hi Jonathan,
I have almost the same shoe in a paprika shade and I love it. It is one of my go to shoes for foul weather and I have had the shoes for almost 4 years with varied use. I find myself using them more in fall and winter than summer for instance.
Having two pairs of Alden’s with crepe soles I had the same thing happen on both pairs. I can say that I was very disappointed and swore off crepe soles. For me I first started to notice the separation between the back end (heel side) of the leather and not the front end.
After making a similar inquiry I found out that the primary reason for the leather tip is to have a smooth surface that does not stick on carpet and trip you.
Long after forgetting about this I had the honor of speaking with Nate Humble from Alden at a trunk show. I mentioned I was not a huge fan of the crepe sole. He understood but told me a lot about it and it made me feel a lot better. The crepe sole has actually been around a lot longer than I thought and was known for its toughness. You should be able to get more info on it from Steven.
I have long forgotten the issues I have had with the crepe souls and now find my crepe soled Alden’s to be very comfortable and perfect if I am expecting rain.
Additionally I believe it to be a great pairing with the Alpine grain which I believe is also better for rain. This black alpine grain shoe looks great BTW and I am very tempted.
Good luck.

Thanks for the info Matt – glad to hear. I had read a few other reports on blogs about something similar regarding the leather tip. Just curious: what, if anything, did you end about this? Jonathan
Jonathan,
I am not sure what you are asking but I will let you know that when I started to see the leather tip “curl” away from the heel end of the shoe I assumed the leather would come off sooner rather than later. At first I let them sit in the closet. After I while I started to wear them again. I have a great snuff suede plain toe boot that I now wear everywhere and the tips have stayed on both pairs so I have forgotten about it.

From my understanding even if the leather tips do come off it is much less expensive to have just the tips redone.
I am looking for another pair of crepe soles in a boot or a really relaxed shoe.
The only downside I see with the crepe now is that I would not get it for a dress shoe.

Cheers, Matt. Great advice for all. Thanks again. Jonathan
