Corthay Bella Demi Boot

“La Bella” simply translated is the “Beauty” and so it is fitting that Pierre Corthay chose the name Bella for his most elegant demi boot. The lines of this boot are so clean and pure in a way that can only be translated by Corthay.

All Corthay shoes are made in Paris and should be considered works of art. Pierre himself was awarded the lifetime title of maître d’art, or master of art by the government of France. Each year, the award is given to honor native artisans for their expertise and talent in their fields.

While not widely recognized in the United States the award is highly prestigious in France.

To behold a pair of Corthay shoes is one thing but to own them is completely another. If you are fortunate enough to be among the latter you should consider yourself in rare company indeed.

Edward Green Dover

The Dover is without doubt the quintessential Edward Green shoe. Tales of its handsewn apron and reverse split toe are legendary and rightfully so. Each is sewn by expert craftsmen who use pigs bristles rather than metal needles.

The preparation of the thread itself is a major undertaking combining several long strands and bonding them with wax then splitting the end of the bristle and lashing the thread to it.

So much of what goes into finely crafted shoes is taken for granted. It’s difficult to appreciate the level of skill, time and artisan-ship it takes to produce a pair if you haven’t seen it first hand. It’s remarkable really that in today’s high tech, automated world there are products which are still made by way of tradition. Something’s are best left unchanged.

Here are several Dover’s, that we recently received for clients. All of which were made to order.

Alden Snuff Suede Chukkas

Suede Chukkas boots are a staple of summer footwear. The Alden 1493 snuff suede chukkas are an excellent choice because they’re unlined, which makes them cool and comfortable.

These shoes feel like slippers form the moment you first slip them on. And unlike rubber sole chukkas the leather Flex Welt soles give this boot the added versatility of being slightly dressier.

Church Chetwynd & Gatcombe MTO

Church’s Shoes of Northampton, England has produced these two made to order pairs for our clients.  Both are heavily brogued wingtips, which we love on the Church’s classic 173 last.

What’s interesting about them is the two different materials; the white suede is very textural while the burgundy polished binder is smooth as glass. Both are handsome and timeless of course at different times of the year.

Edward Green Holborn

Patent leather is the ultimate material when it comes to formal wear. But it can also be worn less formally and is a chic look for summer.

The Edward Green Holborn in black patent leather and cement soles is a lightweight and soft shoe that can do double duty this summer.
